(LAMBTON, ON) – On Sunday January 24th, 2016, a member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting RADAR enforcement on Forest Road, Plympton-Wyoming Township.
At approximately 7:00 p.m., OPP observed a southbound motor vehicle traveling on Forest Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The officer activated the RADAR which registered a speed of 142 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometer per hour zone. OPP conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the male driver. Shortly thereafter, the officer formed the opinion that the driver was impaired due to the consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The male was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP Detachment for breath testing which resulted in readings more than twice the legal limit.
As a result, 34 year-old, Sandy James PORTER of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, ON was charged with:
Driving While Ability Impaired
Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood
Fail to Surrender Insurance Card
Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
Driving While Under Suspension
Speeding
The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday February 22, 2016.
The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
