Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 177 calls for service during the previous week.

Assault with Weapon

One male is facing charges after OPP officers were called to a residence in Arnprior on Saturday night. One male victim was injured with an edged weapon during an altercation. Police responded to the residence on Russell St S. at 10:21 pm. The victim was treated for his injuries and released from hospital. Jonathan LOGAN 34 of Renfrew was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. He was also charged under the Trespass to Property Act with failing to leave a premise when directed to do so. He was remanded into custody for a bail hearing on December 9. Provincial Constable Lisa Nicholas investigated.

Domestic Disputes

During the past week Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers responded to seven domestic disputes. Charges were laid in four investigations, no criminal offences occurred in three cases. One male was charged with criminal harassment, extortion and two counts of domestic mischief; one male was charged with breach of probation, and two males were charged with assault.

Impaired Driver

On Sunday December 6 at 10:42 pm OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 132 in Greater Madawaska Township. The male driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention. An insecure firearm was in the vehicle with the driver. He was arrested at the scene and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further tests at the detachment he was charged. Mark ROUSSELLE 24 of Horton Township was charged with careless storage of a firearm, and driving over 80 mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on January 20, 2016. Frauds

Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers assisted with seven fraud calls during the past week. One fraud involved driveway paving not completed, one call supposedly from Citizen and Immigration Canada looking for personal information, two calls were in regards to ads on-line for items for sale looking for immediate cash transfer, one regarding an attempt to return an item at a store that may have been purchased with fraudulent American funds, and attempted credit card scam. Beware of people looking for your personal information or wanting payment for charity, sales or to prevent your arrest. Report all fraud attempts to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre 1-888-495-8501.

Uttering Threats

On Wednesday December 2 at 4:10 pm OPP officers spoke with a complainant who indicated a driver on Highway 17 pulled up beside them and threatened them. Officers located the suspect and after investigating the incident charged one male. Joshua BLAIS 31 of Renfrew was charged with uttering a threat. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on January 20, 2016. Provincial Constable Denys Baranovskiy investigated.

Theft

One male was charged after OPP officers were notified that a male was arrested at Wal-Mart for theft. The male was arrested on November 30. The investigation revealed the male had been observed on security footage stealing items from Wal-Mart for several months. Jason DEROY 30 of Renfrew was charged with theft under $5,000. He was released on an appearance notice for court in Renfrew on December 30. Provincial Constable Mark Yarmel investigated.

A brown leather purse was stolen from Tim Horton’s in Arnprior on Staye Court Drive. The theft happened on Tuesday December 1 after 1:30 pm.

A Sony Xteria cell phone was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on December 1 at 9:20 am. The vehicle was parked on McLachlin St in Arnpior and was unattended for ten minutes.
