(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 217 calls for service during the previous week, mischief, family disputes, collisions and domestic disputes.
Domestic Disputes
Officers investigated 14 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with assault and two counts of domestic mischief, one male was charged with domestic mischief, one male was charged with assault and one female was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking.
Thefts
Numerous thefts from vehicles occurred over the past week, in both Renfrew and Arnprior. If you own a vehicle please take a moment at the end of the day to remove valuables from plain sight as thieves are stealing small items like sunglasses, cell phones, wallets and loose change. When not in use, please lock your vehicle.
Break and Enter
A homeowner on Stevenson Cr in Renfrew returned home to find a male and female in her back yard. They claimed to be looking for a lost dog. After they left the homeowner realized a window facing the back yard was forced open. This happened on Tuesday August 2 between 3-3:30pm. Police do not believe the thieves made it inside the home. Provincial Constable Dave Peace is investigating.
A home on River Road in McNab Braeside Township was entered during the daytime on Monday August 1. The homeowner advised nothing appeared to be stolen, and no damage was done to enter the home. Provincial Constable Patrick O’Connor is investigating.
A home on Claude St in Arnprior was entered on Sunday August 7. A read door was forced open and a play station and TV were stolen. Provincial Constable Colleen McGrath is investigating.
Impaired Driver
One male is facing charges after police stopped a driver in Admaston Bromley Township who had been drinking, had been disqualified for life from driving and no insurance. On July 19 the vehicle involved a red 1992 Ford pick-up truck with a wooden front bumper was the subject of a driving complaint. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle on that date, but became aware the driver was disqualified for life. On Wednesday August 3 at 5:20pm Provincial Constable Kyle Mask was stationary on Colton Road when he observed the suspect vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle to confirm the status of the driver. The driver turned onto Cruise Lane and continued driving until stopping in a private driveway. The officer investigated the ownership, drivers licence and insurance and confirmed there was no insurance, the vehicle was not properly registered and the driver was disqualified. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests at the detachment Kevin CRUISE 51 of Admaston Bromley Township was charged with:
Impaired driving
Driving over 80mgs
Driving while disqualified
Driving while suspended (2 counts)
Failing to apply for permit on becoming the owner
Driving with no insurance
Driving with no currently validated permit
He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 7 for the Criminal Code charged, and on September 17 for the Provincial Charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. His vehicle was impounded for 45 days under provisions of the Highway Traffic Act.
