Police Officer Charged With Unlawful Possession of Restricted Firearm

(KANATA, ON) – On June 19, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau launched an investigation into the unlawful possession of a restricted firearm when an OPP officer, charged with a separate offence, turned it into police as part of his release conditions.

Today, September 19, 2013, as a result of the investigation, OPP officers have charged 31-year-old Constable Michael JANHO with Unlawful Possession of a Restricted Firearm contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code. He was off-duty at the time of the offence.

He was released on a Promise to Appear to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Ottawa on October 29, 2013.

He remains suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act. He has been a member of the Ontario Provincial Police for 5 years posted to the Ottawa detachment.
