(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On September 28, 2014 members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. on Bowes Street in Parry Sound. At approximately 1:30 a.m., an officer detected a strong odour of marihuana coming from a grey Chevrolet truck. As a result of police investigation marihuana and a firearm were seized.
Driver, Joshua POWLESS, 24 years of age from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nations was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).
Passenger, Randy Johnson, 23 years of age from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nations was charged with Transport firearm in a careless manner, Unauthorized possession, Knowledge of unauthorized possession and Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm as per the Criminal Code (CC).
Passenger, Matthew NADJIWON, 25 years of age from Wasauksing First Nation was charged with Transport firearm in a careless manner, Unauthorized possession, Knowledge of unauthorized possession, Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm and Fail to Comply with conditions of undertaking as per the CC.
The three accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on November 20, 2014.
