OPP CHARGE MAN WITH STUNT DRIVING WHILE IMPAIRED

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On September 28, 2014, the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Highway 69 in Archipelago Township. At approximately 2:02 a.m. a northbound red Chrysler was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Stunt Driving”. Further investigation revealed a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver.

The driver, Tom MCKENZIE, 40 years of age from Bear Island First Nation was arrested and has been charged with:

1. Race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA). His Ontario Drivers Licence has been suspended for seven (7) days and the vehicle he was operating was also seized for seven (7) days.

2. Impaired operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).

3. Operate Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Mgs contrary to the CC.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on November 6, 2014.
