OPP Officer and Auxiliary Officer Injured

(BAPTIST, ON) – On January 25, 2015 at approximately 1:30 pm, an uniform officer with the Snowmobile, All-Terrain, Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Unit and an Auxiliary member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on OPP Motorized Snow Vehicles (MSV) attempted to stop an ATV near Lake Baptist, Hastings Highlands, ON.

The suspect ATV collided with an OPP MSV, throwing and injuring the Auxiliary OPP officer and fled the scene. The uniform officer followed the fleeing suspect ATV, attempting to get it stopped. During this time, the ATV operator directed his vehicle at the OPP officer striking the officer. The ATV did stop a short time later and the driver was arrested.

Lyndon PAUZE, 25 of Cardiff, ON is being held in custody to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville, today, January 26, 2015 for a bail hearing. He is charged with:

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Causing Bodily Harm

Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer

Flight From Police – Causing Bodily Harm

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000

Theft of a Motor Vehicle – Over $5000

Fail to Stop at Scene of an Accident Involving Bodily Harm

Fail to Comply with Recognizance

The OPP officer and Auxiliary OPP officer were injured during the incident. They were taken to hospital, treated and released.

The investigation is continuing.
