(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) Over the past few months the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Almaguin Highlands OPP have responded to several reported thefts of all-terrain vehicles (ATV’s) and snow machines. As a result of joint efforts by the Huntsville OPP Crime Unit, Almaguin Highlands OPP, North Bay OPP, Northeast Regional Forensic Identification Section, Canine Unit and Crime Unit members, charges have been laid and a quantity of stolen property have been recovered including; three All-Terrain Vehicles, two snow machines and one utility trailer.
On Tuesday April 1, 2014 the Almaguin Highlands OPP laid more charges against James RYE in connection to this investigation. The accused remains in custody and has been charged with the following additional offences.
Possession of stolen property x2, break enter and theft, theft under $5000, and theft over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The additional charges relate to the thefts of snowmobiles in the Almaguin Highlands area this past winter.
