(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On December 22, 2013, just after 10:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program when a Pontiac vehicle entered and stopped for the officers.
While officers were speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension. The driver was served with a three day driver’s licence suspension.
During the same RIDE program, a Honda vehicle entered and stopped for the officers. During conversation with the driver, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension. Subsequent investigation also determined that the driver was not accompanied by a qualified driver, and failed to provide the officers with a permit and insurance card for the motor vehicle.
The driver, 27 year old Surachai PHATTHARAAMPHONPHAISAN, from Chatham, was served with a three day driver’s licence suspension and charged with the following offences:
Class G1 licence holder – drive when blood alcohol concentration above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Fail To Surrender Permit For Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Fail To Surrender Insurance Card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind drivers that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. If you consume alcoholic beverages, plan for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, a taxi or public transit to ensure that you and others sharing the road, arrive safely.
