Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:

Apr 15:

Theft reported from unlocked vehicles on Toronto Rd in Colborne sometime overnight. A purse and men’s wallet were taken.

The homeowners of a residence on Long Reach Rd in Brighton that recently burnt down March 31, 2016 reported the theft of a red 12.5hp lawn tractor and a 1989 yellow Bombardier Safari 377 (snowmobile) Ont. Lic. #649871, VIN # 36382006 between Wednesday and today.

Four neighbour disputes reported. Brighton (property line, unsafe driving, inappropriate gestures), Campbellford (barking dog). No charges resulted in any of these incidents.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in Hamilton Twp resulting in the male partner being arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. Names withheld

Apr 16:

A 46 yr old Seymour Twp man called police to advise that he had been kayaking on Trent River near Trent River Village and overturned his boat. He swam to shore and reported the incident in the event his kayak, paddle or knapsack wash ashore.

A pedestrian running along Hwy 401 near Colborne was located and removed from the highway. No charges resulted.

Police attended a Hamilton Twp home for a family dispute. After several attempts to settle things down, an intoxicated adult daughter was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment where she was held until sober.

Apr 17:

Police assisted emergency room staff at Campbellford Memorial hospital when an injured intoxicated female left prior to being assessed. The 30 yr old female was returned to the care of hospital staff.

Police responded to a large ‘bush party’ in the area of Pogue Rd in Cramahe Twp at 1am. Officers dispersed the crowd without incident. Township to be notified about erecting possible barriers to prevent future ‘gatherings’.

A 2012 white Dodge Ram truck was measured to be traveling 155 km/h on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area at 8am. The 27 yr old driver from Mississauga was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His truck was impounded for 7 days and licence suspended for the same period of time. He has an impending court date in June 2016.

A Colborne area mother reported finding credit cards not in her son’s name in the residence. After investigation, her 18 yr old son was charged with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 and Theft Under $5,000 (from a motor vehicle). He was released and given a court date in June 2016.

Northumberland OPP officers also conducted four RIDE programs, investigated two accidental 911 calls, eight motor vehicle collisions and 22 traffic related complaints.
