(HALIBURTON, ON)-On Sunday September 27, 2015 at approximately 3:50 am officers from the Haliburton Highlands OPP responded to a report of a vehicle striking a moose on Highway 118 in Minden Hills. The incident took place just west of the Kushog Lake Road.
Upon arrival the officers observed a Dodge Caravan with severe front end damage. The moose was dead on the shoulder of the road. During the investigation the lead officer detected a strong smell of alcohol on the breath of the female driver. This led to a roadside test that resulted in a “Fail”. The driver was then arrested for over 80 and transported to the Haliburton Highlands Detachment.
Intoxilyzer tests were completed at the Detachment to determine the amount of alcohol in the driver’s blood.
Charged is Chrystal LEECE, 35 of Clearview Twp., Ontario. She is charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
LEECE is scheduled to appear in court in Minden on November. 4, 2015 to answer to the charge.
