IMPAIRED MOTORIST LAUNCHES VEHICLE OFF OVERPASS

(Oro-Medonte, ON)- On January 19th, 2014 at approximately 4:56 a.m., members of the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision (MVC) on highway 11 southbound, Springwater Twp.

Police investigation revealed that the driver of a Chevy Impala was traveling northbound on the highway 400 extension ramp, before going over the guardrail and landing on highway 11 in the northbound lanes. The vehicle then continued across the centre median of highway 11 and came to rest in the southbound lanes. The vehicle was unidentifiable due to the impact and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by the fire department. The driver was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Cary NEWELL, 49 years old from Penetanguishene has been charged with “Impaired Operation” and “Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample of alcohol/blood”. His licence was suspended for a period of 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on February 3rd 2014.
