Hawkesbury Weekly Release

In the week of April 6th to April 13th, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to 242 occurrences. Four break and enter incidents were reported. Three incidents of assault and one incident of theft were reported. In the last two weeks, officers investigated two impaired driving related incidents. Out of these 242 occurrences, 22 concluded with accusations.

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(Champlain, ON) In the evening April 2nd, shortly after 9:30 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers received a complaint about a possible impaired driver on Main Street in Hawkesbury.

Police were able to intercept the suspicious vehicle on County Road 17 near County road 4 in the Municipality of Champlain.

Interaction with the driver gave Hawkesbury OPP Constable Marc Lauzon reason to believe that the female driver was driving her vehicle while having blood alcohol content over the legal limit. She was asked to provide a breath sample which she refused.

Consequently, the driver, Nancy KIROUAC (34 yrs) of Brébeuf, QC, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with 254(5) Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample -alcohol/blood.

Cannabis Marijuana and methamphetamines were found in her vehicle. She was consequently charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following sections:

– 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams

– 4(1) Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine

During the investigation, Nancy KIROUAC refused to get out of her vehicle. Consequently, she was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 129(a) Obstruct Peace Officer .

She was later released and scheduled to appear at court on April 22nd, 2015 in L’Orignal.

(East-Hawkesbury, ON) – In the afternoon Wednesday April 1st, shortly before 2pm, a black 2006 Mercedes passed a detective that was driving eastbound on Highway 417. The Mercedes was travelling at an excessively high rate of speed. The vehicle was intercepted by other officers who were called to assist.

Interaction with the driver of the vehicle gave the officer reason to believe that he was driving his motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over the legal limit.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle did not have the proper licence plates.

Furthermore, an open bottle of liquor was found in the vehicle.

The driver was not able to provide a proof of insurance for the vehicle.

Consequently, Ali Baktash ATAIE (32 yrs) of Ottawa, was charged under the following Criminal Code of Canada sections:

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood

– 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following sections:

– 12(1)(d) Use plate not authorized for vehicle

– 172(1) Race a motor vehicle

He was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with section 2(1)(a) Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.

Lastly, he was charged under the Liquor Licence Act with section 31 (2) Having care and control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor.

His vehicle was impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended immediately.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on April 22nd, 2015 in L’Orignal.
