(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – On May the 10th 2015 at 11:10 am police were dispatched to two vehicle motor vehicle collision at Talbot Line (Highway #3) east of Yarmouth Centre Road, Municipality of Central Elgin.
Police attended the scene, investigation revealed that a silver 2009 Pontiac VA4 had been traveling westbound on Talbot Line. The 82 year old male driver from the City of London crossed over the centre line of the roadway into oncoming traffic. The Pontiac struck a grey 2015 Dodge Caravan that was traveling eastbound on Talbot Line. Driver of the Caravan a 35 year old male from the City of St. Thomas had 5 passengers with him in the vehicle.
Both vehicles had heavy front end damage. All passengers in the Dodge Caravan including the driver were transported by EMS to hospital and were later released with minor injuries. Due to the extent of the damages to the Pontiac, the 82 year old male driver was trapped inside the vehicle; Central Elgin Fire Department extricated him from the vehicle. EMS transported the male to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of the collision Talbot Line was shut down between Quaker Road and Yarmouth Centre Road from 11:10 am and 12:30pm.
All Passengers and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Gordon CONTI, age 82 of the City of London has been charged with Failing to Drive in Marked Lane contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
