Members of Central Hastings O.P.P continue to encourage motorists to concentrate on their driving each and every time they get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Between Saturday March 8, 2014 to Monday March 10, 2014 Central Hastings O.P.P have laid 28 charges of Drive with Handheld Communication Device, as part of the province wide Distracted Driving Campaign. “Unfortunately too many drivers continue to multitask while driving, which means their focus is diverted from the principal task of driving†says Central Hastings OPP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Peter Valiquette.
People using a cell phone while driving are 4 to 6 times more likely to be involved in a motor vehicle collision. Focused enforcement of distracted driving laws will continue to be a detachment priority.
