ANOTHER COLLISION ON MIDDLESEX COUNTY ROADS

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) On Friday July 26, 2013 at 8:05 a.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two vehicle collision located at the intersection of Cobble Hills Road and Plover Mills Road, Thames Centre. As a result of this collision three adult occupants were transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

With the warm summer weather police have noticed an increase in the number of preventable collisions on Middlesex County roads. Since June 1, 2013 the Middlesex OPP has responded to 147 motor vehicle collisions. Of those 147 collisions reported to police 28 resulted in numerous vehicle occupants receiving serious injuries and 3 people have unnecessarily lost their lives.

The Middlesex OPP continues to focus on the “big four” risk behaviours which include aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving, and occupants not wearing safety restraints. These are the leading causes of injuries and deaths on Ontario roads. The OPP will continue to use both enforcement and education to help curb the rise of accidents and the unnecessary loss of life.

Detachment Commander Inspector Tony Cristilli stated, “We are dedicated to the core values and vision of OPP including public safety and security. We continue to be visible every day of the year to ensure that our highways are safe for the motoring public. We take great pride in the professional service we provide on a daily basis. When our members are not responding to calls for service, our officers pursue traffic related strategies aimed at public safety. But we don’t work in isolation. It takes ALL of us to help prevent the unnecessary loss of life, serious injuries and financial implications that occur as a result of motor vehicle collisions”.

Police would like to remind the public that if you see someone who you believe is driving while impaired, driving in a dangerous or aggressive manner or is observed driving or texting while on their cell phone, you are encouraged to contact your local police authority. The OPP can be reached anytime, anywhere in the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122.
