Running Stop Sign Leads To Impaired Charge

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH TWP, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Toronto resident with Impaired Driving offences following a traffic stop on Sunday May 14th. 

Huron County OPP were contacted by a concerned citizen that reported drivers were departing a function after consuming alcohol on May 14th, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m. in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township. Police attended the area of the report and observed for driver violations.

At approximately 1:13 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign on Dungannon Road at Southampton Street and continue travelling southbound. A traffic stop was initiated on Lucknow Line.

Police spoke to the driver and determined that they had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and taken into custody. The driver was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests with an OPP qualified breath technician.

Thomas LASSASOMBATH-ERB, 30 years of age from Toronto has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs,

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80.

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 26th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
