Wingham Likely To Lose Ice Surface At Arena To Help Fund Failed Amalgamation

Wingham continues to suffer from the negative effects of amalgamation as the three wards fight over capital spending. Blyth theatre gets millions of dollars, while Wingham theatre is missing a fire suppression system. Which means no Famous Players, no bus loads of people coming to Wingham to eat at our struggling restaurants after a show, etc. etc. Council has just given up trying to maintain and improve our infrastructure and is apparently terrified of confronting a department head or the CAO.

At the 18April2016 council meeting, Blyth councillor brock vodden suggested that North Huron shut down the ice surface at the Wingham Arena every other year, and those taxpayers/users could simply go to Blyth to skate and play hockey.

Now you are probably thinking that shutting down the Wingham Arena every other year is absurd and it will never happen. Don’t forget we live in a Municipality where council agreed to shut the pool during the weekends during summer. We all know this wasn’t a cost saving move, but to allow town staff to have the nice summer weekends off at the inconvenience of every area taxpayer.
