At the packed 18April2016 council meeting our current Director of Public Works, kelly church, was put in his place by angry and upset taxpayers. A delegation member from East-Wawanosh was refused permission to show photos of road deficiencies, likely due to the fact they would be forced to fix those deficiencies under the new minimum standards. Typically they are given 14 days to fix a problem once they are made aware of it. If they fail to meet their new minimum standards, the Ombudsman can then intervene if a member of the Public files a complaint.
Several members of council agreed that the road conditions are deplorable and unsafe. If council still refuses to act, they should be named personally in any lawsuit arising from those deficiencies.
The majority of council seemed unmoved by the pleas of the Public to make our Community safer. The current director of public works simply sat there smugly, unmoved by comments about missing safety rails, washboard potholes, and the town being liable in case of an accident. Should we expect any less from a “man” that refuses to clear sidewalks in Community Safety Zones and forces our children to walk in traffic?
