West Grey Police Press Release 04July – 10July2016

Date: 6 July 2016

Occurrence type: Break and Enter

On Wednesday 6 July 2016, after 2am a male attended in a car to a business on Hwy#6 north of Durham and broke into a shop. A man door on the shop was found unlocked and when the thief opened the door a loud audible alarm scared him back to his car which fled the area. Police were there within 3 minutes of the call. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information may contact the WGPS or Crime Stoppers.

Occurrence type: Mischief

Overnight on Thursday 7 July 2016, a person or persons spray painted black a cautionary stop sign and the stop sign on Townsend Lake Rd and the Glenelg-Holland TL. An unidentified grey car had been seen in the area. Obviously, this mischief is dangerous and could have resulted in a serious motor vehicle collision. Anyone with information may contact the WGPS or Crime Stoppers.

Occurrence type: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On Friday 8 July 2016, at approximately 2pm Elmwood Fire, Ambulance, West Grey Police and Hanover Police attended to a fatal motor vehicle collision on 5 SDR south of Con 8, Bentinck. A mini-van and a car collided head-on. There were only the drivers occupying both vehicles. An area man Richard GOLEM was pronounced dead at Hanover and District Hospital. The driver of the mini-van Tyler ZINN from the Woodstock area sustained serious but non-life threatening lower body injuries and was subsequently air lifted from the Hanover and District Hospital to a London area hospital. OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended to assist with the investigation which is ongoing.

Occurrence type: Break, enter and theft

Between Friday 8 July 2016 and Sunday 10 July 2016, a steel shed on 80 SDR near Hwy #10, West Grey was broken into. A 16hp Yardman lawn tractor, yellow and green in colour with a 42” deck and 2 kayaks were stolen. One kayak is described as a 14’ one person Wilderness Systems Commander 140 orange in colour outfitted for fishing. The second is a 12’ blue one person kayak. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information may contact the WGPS or Crime Stoppers.
