Weather Conditions Contribute To 28 Collisions In 24 Hours

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 28 reports of vehicle collisions, stranded motorists and traffic hazards in the last 24hrs.

Almost every winter we see some sort of extreme fluctuations in temperature, a January thaw of sorts. One week, extreme sub-zero temperatures and the next, peaks on the positive side. January 10, 2018 temperatures in Wellington County range from -14 degrees to six degrees Celsius according to Environment Canada.

Wellington County OPP would like to remind everyone to use extra caution on the roads as they may not be as clear as they look. The sudden thaw leaves roads wet and run-off ensures de-icers are washed away. The overnight lows and cross winds can cause ice to form relatively easy, disguising ice as black-top.

Please use caution and do not become another statistic.
