(PEMBROKE, ON) – Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were kept busy with several calls for service over the last weekend in August.
STUNT DRIVING CHARGE LAID AFTER COLLISION
On August 27, 2015 officers responded to a motor vehicle collision in Laurentian Valley Township after a vehicle being driven on Hazley Bay Drive struck another unattended vehicle that had been parked along the side of the road. No injuries were reported. It was found that the driver had accelerated, squealed his tires and struck the parked vehicle. As a result 29 year old Joshua DAYMENT of Pembroke was charged with performing a stunt under the Highway Traffic Act Stunt Driving legislation. DAYMENT’s vehicle was impounded for 7 days and his driver’s license was suspended for 7 days. DAYMENT was served a summons to appear on October 5, 2105 in Provincial Offences Court in Pembroke.
IMPAIRED/OVER 80MG CHARGES LAID IN WHITEWATER REGION
On August 27, 2015 officers were on patrol in the Township of Whitewater Region when an occupant of a passing vehicle began shouting obscenities at police. Police conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A quantity of alcohol was seized from the car. As a result Shawn COSTELLO, age 38 of Whitewater Region Township, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Impaired Driving
· Driving with More than 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in Blood
COSTELLO’S driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear on September 29, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
NEIGHBOUR DISPUTE LEADS TO WEAPONS CHARGES
On August 28, 2015 officers attended a neighbour dispute in the City of Pembroke. It was found that one of the involved neighbours pointed a pistol style BB gun at the victim and assaulted the victim while making threats to use the weapon. As a result a 51 year old female from Pembroke is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Pointing a Firearm
· Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
· Assault with a Weapon
The female was held for a bail hearing. Her name is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
IMPAIRED CARE AND CONTROL/REFUSAL CHARGES LAID IN PETAWAWA
In the early morning hours of August 29, 2105 police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Petawawa Boulevard in the Town of Petawawa. Police located the driver and vehicle in a parking lot on Petawawa Boulevard. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result Philippe LEVEILLE, age 34 of Petawawa, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired
· Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample
LEVEILLE‘s driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear on October 13, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
DRUGS CHARGES LAID AFTER DISTURBANCE
In the early morning hours of August 30, 2015 officers attended at a disturbance on the sidewalk in front of a bar on Pembroke Street West in Pembroke. A male was arrested under the Liquour License Act for failing to identify himself. The male was found to be in possession of drugs and as a result Jordan FURGOCH, age 33 of Ottawa, was charged with one count of Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. FURGOCH was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear on October 6, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
