(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Thursday September 12 2013 at approximately 10:07 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a male that was missing and presumed drowned on Northern Lights Lake.
A fisherman had been fishing on Northern Lights Lake in the area of Trafalgar Bay when he located a female alone and wet on an island.
Upon speaking with the female it was learned that she was fishing with a male on Trafalgar Bay on Northern Lights Lake. As they were leaving the area for the day, while in the North West corner of Trafalgar Bay, the boat struck something in the water. The boat lunged and the two were thrown from the boat. The male was not wearing a life jacket at the time and did not resurface from the water. The female was wearing a life jacket and was able to swim to an island.
On Sunday September 15 2013 at approximately 2:18 pm, divers from the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit attended the area of Trafalgar Bay where the male fisherman was last seen. They located the body of Dennis TODD, 59 years of age, from Jefferson City, Missouri, USA
The investigation is continuing.
