(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) With the longer evening daylight hours, the March Break school holiday, and the imminent arrival of the warmer weather, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind parents that the OPP continues to enforce the provincial curfew.
On Sunday morning March 08, 2015, at 4:55 a.m. an OPP officer on patrol in Mitchell observed two 14 year old boys walking on St. George St. at Henry St. The officer apprehended the boys under the authority of the Child and Family Services Act. The parents were contacted and arrangements were made for the boys to be returned home.
The Child and Family Services Act states; that a police officer can apprehend children under the age of 16 that are found in a public place, or in a place of public entertainment between midnight and 6 a.m. If children are located in these places without an authorized responsible adult they will be picked up by police and the parent of the child will then be contacted to retrieve him or her.
“It is unfortunate that these incidences occur on a regular basis throughout the county. Parents need to realize that the onus is on them to know where their children are at all times, and if they are staying at friends, be sure this is communicated between parents so you know this to be the case”. Staff/Sergeant Joel Skelding Perth County OPP
