Frank REDEKOP – 132 in an 80

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Friday March 06, 2015, shortly before 7 a.m., an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols along Line 39 north of Stratford when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Volkswagen PTL was observed travelling west bound on Line 39 at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer activated the police radar and locked the Volkswagen in at a speed of 132 km/h. This is 52 km/h above the posted 80 km/h zone. The vehicle was pulled over and the male driver was issued a summons for the offence of “race a motor vehicle” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Frank REDEKOP (28) a Kitchener resident is to appear at Stratford Court on April 28, 2015, to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for a week, under the stunt driving legislation.

With the weather getting warmer and road conditions improving the Perth County OPP will be on the lookout for drivers who engage in high risk behaviours. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more sever the collision and the more likely that serious injury or death will occur. Obey the speed limit and respect the rules of the road when travelling.
