Traffic Stop Results in Numerous Charges

On February 21st, 2016 at approximately 3:00am, OPP Officers were on patrol and made a routine traffic stop on Lansdowne Street in the City of Peterborough. The driver of the motor vehicle had an odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and was requested to complete a roadside screening test to determine sobriety. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath and was subsequently charged.

In accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, the officers were attempting to have the motor vehicle towed when a female passenger refused to hand over the keys. As a result, the female was arrested and in the process of effecting the arrest, she assaulted both police officers.

Charged is:

1) Driver: Brian Johnson, age – 25 years of Otonabee- South Monaghan Twp.

Sec. 254(5) Criminal Code of Canada – Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample”

2) Passenger: Claire Walsh
