(CALEDON, ON) – On March 19, 2014 shortly after 4:10 am, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol travelling westbound on Mayfield Road approaching Coleraine Drive. The officers observed a gray Toyota travelling at a high rate of speed and activated the vehicle’s emergency equipment to conduct a vehicle stop. At the time of the traffic stop and upon the request of the officers, the driver searched his glove compartment for requested documents. The officers observed a glass jar containing what is believed to be a marijuana cigarette inside the glove compartment.
As a result, the driver was arrested for the offence. During the course of the investigation, the officers also learned that the driver was currently bound by a condition to “Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour†and was under House Arrest. The male was transported to Detachment for processing.
While the accused was being processed by one of the officers at Detachment, a fellow officer searched the back seat of the cruiser and located a quantity of drugs, believed to be cocaine which had been left behind by the driver.
Clifford De CAMP, 20, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Possession of Schedule 1 substance and Possession of a Schedule II substance. The accused was also charged with 2 counts of Fail to Comply.
The accused was held in custody overnight and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville later that day.
