(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday October 24, 2010 at approximately 1:45 a.m. Perth County OPP officers in Listowel were called to the intersection of Main St. West and Mitchell Rd. (Hwy. 23) where a tractor trailer had tipped spilling its load.
The tractor trailer owned by a Brussels farm tipped as it was driving west bound on Main St. West and proceeded to turn south on Mitchell Rd. The tanker trailer was carrying 35 tons of soya powder of which approximately 7-8 tons spilled onto the roadway. There was a minor diesel spill which was contained by the Listowel Fire Department. The Ministry of the Environment was advised of the spill but they did not attend. The intersection was completely blocked as a result of this incident and traffic was re-routed around the scene until 8:10 a.m.
The 35 year old male driver from the Township of Perth East was transported by ambulance to the Listowel Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his minor injuries after which he was released.
