THUNDER BAY OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 61

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Saturday, March 22 2014, at approximately 2:43 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 61 between Arthur Street and the Harbour Expressway. Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue and EMS also attended the scene.

The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado was south bound on Highway 61 when the driver struck the guard rails on the south bound side of Highway 61. The vehicle then veered across Highway 61 and collided with a north bound Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue had to extricate the occupants from both vehicles.

The driver of the Chrysler PT Cruiser, Daniel BROOKS, 28 years of age, from Thunder Bay was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, Michelle PARKER, 28 years of age, from Thunder Bay was transported to hospital by ambulance where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 61 was closed for approximately 11 hours as OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators investigated the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
