(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Saturday, March 15, 2014 at approximately 2:50 am, an officer from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 61. The officer was north bound on Highway 61 proceeding through a green light at the Arthur Street intersection when the driver of a Chevrolet truck was on Highway 61, making a left turn onto Arthur Street and collided with the police vehicle.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck continued driving and entered the parking lot of a local business on Arthur Street. The driver exited his vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol emitting from the drivers breath as well, the driver exhibited obvious signs of impairment.
There were no injuries reported by either driver or from a female occupant of the Chevrolet. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and what appeared to be a small amount of Cocaine.
Wayne GREGOR, 31 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Refuse to Provide a Breath Sample, and Fail to Comply with a Recognizance all contrary to the Criminal Code. He was also charged with Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Mr. GREGOR was held in custody for a video court appearance
