Three Vehicle Collision – One Airlifted To Hospital

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a serious motor vehicle collision at a Highway 3 and Fertilizer Road, Norfolk County, Ontario, address.

On Sunday, September 18, 2016 at approximately 11:41 a.m., OPP, Norfolk County Fire Services and Paramedics responded to Highway 3 and Fertilizer Road and for a collision involving three (3) motor vehicles.

Through the course of investigation, it has been determined that a green coloured van was being operated by a 74-year-old male of Norfolk County, Ontario, and was stopped on Highway 3 waiting to turn northbound onto Fertilizer Road when it was struck by a white coloured pickup truck pulling a wood chipper travelling eastbound on Highway 3.

The pickup truck which was being operated by a 43-year-old male with a 42-year-old passenger, both of Tillsonburg, Ontario then travelled into the westbound lanes of Highway 3 and struck a black coloured motor vehicle being operated by a 46-year-old female of Norfolk County, Ontario head on that was travelling westbound.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the black coloured vehicle sustained life threatening injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Hamilton area hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The driver of the green van suffered minor injuries. The driver and passenger in the white pickup did not sustain any injuries

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the investigation.

Highway 3 is closed between Pinegrove Road and Lyndoch Road and Fertilzer Road is closed between Lyndoch Road and Windham Road 14 to allow for police investigation.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
