(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Tuesday November 26, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of unlocked vehicles being entered overnight in Warkworth, Ontario and property being stolen.
OPP received two reports of UNLOCKED vehicles being entered on Banta Road in Warkworth sometime overnight on Monday November 25, where one victim had an Apple iPod and some change stolen and the other had a Nintendo DS taken while the vehicles were parked at their respective residences.
The theft in these two occurrences was minimal but still preventable. With people increasing their spending and shopping for the Christmas season, leaving their valuables / presents in cars for long periods is not a good idea. It is especially important at this time of year that people lock their vehicles while away from them, securing items in the trunk or taking their property inside their homes.
The Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police has been reporting quite regularly in the recent months about unlocked vehicle theft occurrences that are happening throughout the County. People are not taking the time to lock their vehicles, securing their valuables, only to end up having their property stolen. OPP is asking that residents become more vigilant in securing their vehicles and are reminding once again to “Lock It or Lose Itâ€Â. Please ensure that your vehicles and property are secured safely.
Anyone with information regarding the persons responsible for these thefts or any other local vehicle entries is as asked to contact the OPP at 1-8880310-1122 or the Campbellford OPP Detachment at 1-705-653-3300. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
