Suspicious Grass Fires Near Cemetery

(ST.MARYS, ON) The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating two suspicious grass fires that have taken place within the past month near the St.Marys Cemetery.

The St.Marys Fire Department and the OPP have been aware of young people using the grassy area to the South East of Cain Street as a place for parties and campfires. The area is hidden from view due to tree lines and vegetation. The last incident resulted in the burning of 2-3 acres of grass. So far, no injuries or serious property damage has occurred, however the potential is exists. Parents are urged to remind their children not to trespass, play with fire or have campfires.

Residents are reminded to contact the police immediately if field parties or campfires are observed in the area around the cemetery. In addition, anyone with information about the persons responsible for these previous fires is requested to contact the Perth County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
