(WAPEKEKA, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Northwest Patrol Unit, along with the assistance of the Northwest Region Crime Unit and the Office of the Ontario fire Marshall are investigating a suspicious fire in the First Nation territory of Wapekeka.
During the evening of Wednesday May 13, 2015, officers responded to a report of a fire at the Reverend Eleazar Winter Memorial School in Wapekeka. Officers and community members responding were not able to extinguish the fire, and the school completely burned down.
Preliminary cost estimates to replace the school are estimated to be over five million dollars.
