Charges Laid In Fatal Snow Machine Collision

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the North West Region Crime Unit and Technical Traffic Investigators have charged a man following an investigation into a snow machine collision that claimed the lives of two Kenora men in March.

On Friday March 27, 2015 shortly before 7:30 pm, the Kenora OPP received a report that two snow machines were involved in a collision in the area of Hillock Creek, a remote area off of Highway 71. Police and Tactical Emergency Medical Service (TEMS) attended the remote location by snow machine and ATV. Two men were pronounced dead, and an injured male received medical treatment on scene and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The deceased were identified as 57-year-old Larry CAMERON and 62-year-old Curtis RONNING, both of Kenora.

As a result of this investigation, 54 year old David THORPE of Kenora was arrested on May 15, 2015. The accused has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death (2 counts) contrary to section 255(3) of the Criminal Code (CC) and Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content Causing Death (2 counts) contrary to section 255(3.1) CC. He was released to appear in Kenora Court on June 25, 2015.
