(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – During the early morning hours on October 24, 2016 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial (OPP) were conducting proactive focused patrols in the Town of Erin in an effort to prevent vehicles from being stolen within Wellington County.
At approximately 3:42 a.m. officers observed a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander travelling northbound on Wellington Road 124 at a high rate of speed towards Erin. A query of the plate revealed that it was not registered to that vehicle. The vehicle accelerated away and the officer lost sight of it. The vehicle was observed a short time later on the Main Street in Erin by another officer as it travelled thru town at a high rate of speed and again losing sight of it.
Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle stuck in a field just off the Eighth Line, north of Side Road 17. Uniform officers set up containment of the area while the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit tracked the suspects.
A male and female were located hiding in the field and were taken into custody.
The male suspect was bitten by the police dog and later treated at a local hospital for a minor injury.
A loaded semiautomatic pellet gun and knife were seized.
21-year-old Dustan BUGALA of Guelph has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 x2 and Adult Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x2 contrary to the Criminal Court of Canada.
20-year-old Madison Jackson of Guelph has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 x2 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Both accused are to appear in Guelph Criminal court on November 22, 2016 to answer to the charges.
