(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Thursday, May 7, 2015 at approximately 10:36 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information from the Owen Sound Police Services regarding a stolen vehicle observed in the area. The suspect vehicle, a grey 2011 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, had been reported stolen from a Cayuaga, Ontario residence early this morning.
Grey County OPP observed the suspect vehicle travelling northbound on Hwy. 6 in Springmount, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs. The vehicle failed to stop for police and proceeded through the intersection of Hwy. 6 and Grey Rd. 17 where it collided with a red 2010 Dodge Ram pick-up truck making a left turn from Grey Rd. 17 south onto Hwy. 6.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 29 year old male from Cayuga, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. His passenger, a 20 year old male from Brockton, was apprehended by police after a short foot chase. There were no injuries reported.
The 30 year old driver of the red 2010 Dodge pick-up truck and a 29 year old female passenger, both of Owen Sound, were not injured as a result of the collision.
James Joshua CORBETT, 29, driver of the stolen vehicle, has been charged with the following criminal offences:
– Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
– Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
He also faces the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA):
– Fail to Remain
– Driving While Under Suspension (x2)
CORBETT remains in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for May 25, 2015.
Jessy Gordon HAYES, 20, of the Township of Chatsworth (passenger in the stolen vehicle), has been charged with the criminal offences of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
HAYES remains in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2015.
