Spike Belt Deployed To Stop 22 Year Old Speeding Novice Drinking Driver

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On March 31, 2016, at approximately 4:14 a.m., members from the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. Officers observed a northbound vehicle driving erratically, varying speeds and weaving. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop for police, so a suspect apprehension pursuit began which was discontinued after a short distance. The suspect vehicle was later safely stopped after a spike belt was deployed and then the female driver was arrested.

Through further investigation, Natasha ROTTA, 22 years of age from Ajax was charged with:

Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code (CC)

Possession of a schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).

Careless Driving – Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Speeding 1-49 km/hr over posted speed limit contrary to the HTA.

Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero contrary to the HTA.

Class G1 licence holder – drive at unlawful hour contrary to the HTA.

Class G1 licence holder – drive on prohibited highway hour contrary to the HTA.

Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver contrary to the HTA.

The accused was released from custody and is to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on April 21, 2016.
