(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On March 31, 2016 at approximately 1:39 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2007 Pontiac on Wellington Road 124 in Guelph-Eramosa Township, just outside the City of Guelph.
While speaking with the male driver, officers detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The male was arrested and taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing. Police searched the vehicle and located a small quantity of marihuana.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
21-year-old Ian BONNING of Mono Township has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Possession of Marihuana Under 30 Grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on April 19, 2016 to answer to the charges.
