(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) – On December 10, 2015 at approximately 9:00 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol in the area of Trafalgar Road and Side Road 17 in the Town of Erin when they observed a white 2014 Ford pick-up truck at that location. The officers determined that the vehicle was stolen and that it had been involved in numerous criminal offences.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the truck accelerated away at a high rate of speed and did not stop until it struck a spike belt that was deployed. The vehicle came to rest in a ditch and the male driver continued to be uncooperative and fled on foot. He was arrested a short distance away and taken into custody. A search of the suspect revealed that he was in possession of an imitation firearm and methamphetamine.
35-year-old Joseph GOUTHRO of Kitchener faces the following charges:
Driving While under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Possession of Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Possession of Imitation Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under, Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Adult-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000 in Canada contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Flight while Pursued by Peace Office contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Possession of Property obtained by Crime, Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada X2
He was scheduled to appear in Guelph Bail court to answer to his charges.
