(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On April 17, 2016, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a fraud.
A lone male entered a grocery store in Thames Centre, Ontario, wearing medical scrubs, and purchased two $500 gift cards, stating they were for a fundraiser for a charity. He paid for the cards with a cancer foundation cheque in the amount of $1000. It was subsequently determined that the cheque was fraudulent, and police were contacted.
A second occurrence was reported to Middlesex County OPP on April 20, 2016, by a commercial retail business in Thames Centre.
As a result of the police investigations, 36-year-old Shaun HOFMANS, from London, Ontario, was arrested on April 21, 2016.
He is charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
Fraud under $5000 X2
Use, deals, acts on forged document X2
Disobeying court order X2
Fail to comply with probation order X3
The accused has been held in custody, and is schedule to answer to the charges in a London court on April 29, 2016.
