(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Saturday, May 23, 2015 at approximately 12:14 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a break and enter in progress at a vacant residence located on Southgate Rd. 10 in the Township of Southgate.
The owners of the property attended the residence on Southgate Rd. 10 to investigate after they had received notification of an alarm sounding at that location. When they arrived, they observed damage to the front gate and an unfamiliar white pick-up truck parked near the residence with rolls of copper wire inside the truck. Upon hearing voices inside the residence, the owners called 9-1-1.
Grey County OPP, with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), attended and contained the scene. Two male suspects exited the residence at which time they were arrested without incident. There were no injuries reported.
Rodney John KOPKA, age 21, of Wellington North Township, and Devon KNOWLES, age 20, of Breslau, Ontario are each charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.
They are scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Thursday, July 9, 2015.
