Richard S. HUGHSON – Drunk Driving

(PETROLIA, ON) –On Friday August 21, 2015, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were investigating a traffic incident on Lambton Line, Dawn-Euphemia Township that lead to the arrest of an impaired driver.

A motor vehicle was stopped for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Lambton Line which resulted in the driver of this motor vehicle contacting a friend for a ride home. While waiting at the side of the roadway for the ride, OPP observed a silver Ford pick-up being operated in a suspicious manner and making multiple U-turns in the area. Lambton OPP conducted a traffic stop on this motor vehicle at the intersection of Mawlaw Road and Lambton Line.

The driver of the motor vehicle informed police he got lost while on the way to pick up his friends. However OPP formed the opinion that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired do to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

As a result, 62 year-old Richard S. HUGHSON of Bothwell, ON was arrested and charged for

The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday September 14, 2015.

The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
