Richard KERSEY – 175 in a 100

(LAMBTON, ON) – On Thursday January 7th, 2016 at approximately 10:19 p.m., a member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting stationary RADAR enforcement on 402 Highway westbound, City of Sarnia when the officer observed a westbound motor vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed.

The officer activated the RADAR and the motor vehicle entered at a speed of 175 kilometres per hour in a posted 100 kilometer per hour zone. The officer immediately conducted a traffic stop and consequently issued a Provincial Offence Notice to the male driver of the motor vehicle.

As a result 24 year-old Richard KERSEY of Sarnia ON was charged with

Race a Motor Vehicle

Furthermore, as per statute, the motor vehicle was seized and impounded for 7 days. The accused drivers licence was also suspended and seized for a 7 day period.

Upon conviction, the driver, is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, and in addition his or her driver’s license may be suspended,

(a) on a first conviction under this section, for not more than two years; or

(b) on a subsequent conviction under this section, for not more than 10 years
