Repeat Offender Arrested After High Speed Chase

(WAWA, ON) – On Sunday July 10, 2016 members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised to be on the lookout for a wanted person driving on Highway 17 headed towards Wawa. Police were informed that the driver of the motor vehicle was responsible for numerous thefts of gas and had been involved in several police pursuits. At approximately 5:55 pm the motor vehicle in question was observed travelling Northbound Highway 17 from the Montreal River area. Police attempted to stop the motor vehicle only to have the driver accelerate away and reaching speeds of approximately 150 km/h. Police set up road block on Highway 17 approximately 20 km North of Wawa and deployed the spike belt. The male driver was later apprehended after having stopped his motor vehicle and running into the nearby bushes.

As a result of this investigation police arrested and charged Justin LYNCH (32) with the following offences;

Adult Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,

Adult Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the C.C.C,

Adult Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000- in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the C.C.C,

2 Counts of- Adult Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the C.C.C,

LYNCH was transported to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario for Bail hearing.
