Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 201 calls for service during the previous week, including mischiefs, family disputes and assaults.

Domestic Disputes

Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with failing to comply with a probation order, one male was charged with assault causing bodily harm, and one male was charged with 3 counts of assault and 2 counts of domestic mischief.

Assault

On Tuesday April 12 at approximately 9:10pm two people were assaulted as they were walking home in Arnprior. The victims were walking on William Street W when a vehicle stopped and two males and female exited the vehicle and the altercation ensued. The victims and suspects are known to one another. The suspects fled when a neighbor yelled they were calling the police. The female victim suffered a serious injury, while the male victim was treated at hospital for minor injuries. Katie DAWSON 26 of Arnprior is charged with assault, Norman NORMANDEAU 49 of Arnprior is charged with assault, uttering threats, and breach of a recognizance and Shawn SUTHERLAND 31 of Braeside is charged with assault and 2 counts of breach of a recognizance. Arrest warrants have been issued for all charged persons. Provincial Constable Jodi Burns investigated.

Breach of Probation

One 15-year-old male is facing charges after failing to abide by conditions of his probation order. Police were contacted Wednesday April 13 and advised the male from Renfrew was not abiding by a curfew, and other conditions of his probation order. The male was located at 10:50pm and arrested. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Pembroke on May 4. He cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Provincial Constable Dave Peace investigated.

Mischief

Several mailboxes were smashed on Russett Drive in the Township of McNab Braeside. The damage was reported on Wednesday April 13. There are no suspects at this time.

A vehicle tire was slashed and a knife located in the tire. The damage was located on Bonnechere Street in Renfrew on Friday April 15 during the noon hour. Provincial Constable Kevin Rebertz is investigating.

A tree on the property of the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior was damaged. A witness called the OPP at 6:30pm Saturday April 16 when they saw 3 older teens drinking near a vehicle and one male pulling or pushing a tree and uproot it. Officers attended but were unable to locate the males responsible for the damage.

Theft

Provincial Constable Carlvin Burgins is investigating a theft after receiving a report of a stolen men’s chain at Arnprior & District High School on April 12. The theft occurred after gym class on Thursday April 7. There is a suspect and the investigation is continuing.

On Friday April 15 Provincial Constable Helen Paterson investigated a report of someone taking a motor vehicle without consent. The victim reported their vehicle taken by a relative on April 14 without their consent. The vehicle was located in Gatineau. A 16-year-old male was arrested in Arnprior and is charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent. He was also wanted on a probation warrant and is being held in custody. He cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
