(ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, ON) Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from St. Clair Township firefighters on April 22, 2014 just before 3:00 p.m. in regards to a pile of refuse found burning on Tecumseh Road.
The fire consisted of house hold items, including a kitchen sink, counter top, laminate flooring and carpets that had been dumped on Tecumseh Road just south of LaSalle Line. This is a fairly busy stretch of rural road that is used by industrial/commercial trucks, and by visitors to a local archery range. The area where the items were left to burn is easily seen from LaSalle Line.
The dumped items that were set ablaze were within 20 metres of a location where Lambton OPP had previously located the carcasses of three deer and one canine. The carcasses had been discovered during the winter of 2013-2014 and a report was made to the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).
The fire was extinguished by St. Clair Township firefighters with no injuries reported.
If a member of the public has any information about this area of Tecumseh Road being used as a dump site, and further, any information about this open and unattended fire, Lambton OPP would encourage a phone call to either the OPP directly or to Crime Stoppers.
