REFRAIN FROM DRIVING DISTRACTED

On March 6, 2014 Central Hastings O.P.P conducted six R.I.D.E Programs throughout Madoc, Marmora, Tweed and the surrounding area. More than 230 vehicles were checked resulting in numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act including Drive With Handheld Communication Device, Fail to Wear Seatbelt, Expired Validation Permit and Fail to Surrender Insurance.

With the O.P.P’s Distracted Driving Campaign beginning this weekend, Central Hastings O.P.P would like to remind drivers to make a conscious decision to remain focused on the important task of driving. Distracted driving occurs when a driver’s attention is diverted away from driving because they are focused on something non-driving related.

A texting driver is 23 more times likely to crash than a non-texting driver. Sending that one text while driving may seem harmless, but it’s a decision that could alter the course of your life and other lives too. If you’re ON THE ROAD, make a commitment to stay OFF THE PHONE.
