R.I.D.E. Program In Monkton Results In Charges

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday evening July 27, 2011 Perth County OPP officers conducted a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) check in Monkton. A large number of motorists were checked and as a result two drivers were charged.

Around 9:30 p.m., a 26 year old female driver from Chesley was found to be in possession of open liquor while operating her car. For this she was served a ticket and her liquor was seized. She also registered a blood alcohol reading in the “warn” range on the road side screening device. This indicated that her blood alcohol concentration was between .05 and .08 g%. As a result of this reading her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 3 days and her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Shortly before 10 p.m., a 29 year old male driver from Goderich was stopped and a strong odour of marihuana was detected inside his vehicle. Drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marihuana was found inside the vehicle. The male was served an Appearance Notice ordering him to attend Listowel court on September 14, 2011 and answer to the charge of possession of Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams”.

The Perth County OPP remind the motoring public that their R.I.D.E. spot checks will intensify over the Civic Long Weekend. “
