R.I.D.E. CHECK LEADS TO TWO ARRESTS

(CALEDON, ON) – On October 11th, 2014 at 9 pm, Community Response Unit (CRU) officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check on Mayfield Road at Maisonneuve Boulevard. As a result of the check, a male and a female were arrested.

At 9:55 pm, officers observed a silver Mercedes SUV stopped a short distance from the check point. The officer directed the driver to enter the checkpoint and upon speaking with the driver, the officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver was given the roadside screening breath demand. The driver provided a sample of his breath which registered a fail. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment for further testing.

In conclusion, Gary Walker, 71, from Toronto was arrested and charged with Over 80 and with Driving while Under Suspension.

At 9:59 pm, CRU officers observed the driver of a white Dodge Journey enter into the checkpoint area. Upon speaking with the female driver, the officers detected a strong odour of alcohol on her breath. The driver was given the roadside screening breath demand. The driver provided a sample of her breath which registered a fail. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to Detachment for further testing.

Christine Florence Major, 50, from Brampton was arrested and charged with Driving while Ability Impaired and Over 80.

The accused’s vehicles were impounded for seven days and the 90-day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated.

Both accused’s were released and are scheduled to make their first appearances at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 23, 2014.
